Microsoft Set To Provide its Workers With Unlimited Time Off

Starting next week, Microsoft will allow employees to take as much vacation time as they want.

Salaried workers employed by the company in the U.S. will no longer have a set amount of vacation days each year under its new “Discretionary Time off (DTO)” policy.

“Beginning January 16, 2023, Microsoft is modernizing our vacation policy to a more flexible model and transitioning to Discretionary Time Off (DTO),” a spokesperson said in a statement.  “How, when, and where employees do their jobs has dramatically changed, and DTO aligns with more flexible ways of working.”

Microsoft’s chief people officer Kathleen Hogan emailed employees Wednesday about the policy change.  There are roughly 122,000 employees in the U.S.
According to The Verge,  Microsoft will also provide employees with ten corporate holidays, leaves of absence, sick and mental health time off, and time off for jury duty and mourning.
A one-time payout will be given to employees with unused vacation balances.  The new DTO Policy does not apply to hourly workers and those outside of the U.S.
