The Milli Vanilli biopic is on the way and promises to live up to the hype of the famous r&b duo.
Starring Tijan Njie and Elan Ben in the lead roles of Robert Pilatus and Fabrice Morvan, “Girl You Know It’s True” will give fans an in-depth look at the rise and fall of Milli Vanilli. Their scandalous lip-syncing fallout has gone down in music history and ultimately ended their music careers. Now, viewers will get to see exactly what went down.
The group earned several No. 1 hits, such as “Blame It On the Rain,” “Girl I’m Gonna Miss You,” and “Baby Don’t Forget My Number.” Their 1989 album “Girl You Know It’s True” spent eight weeks at the top of Billboard 200 and won them a Grammy award. However, after they were found to be lip-syncing the music, which was not even recorded by them, the group was forced to give the prestigious award back.
In the film’s first glimpse, Tijan Njie and Elan Ben stun in character as Milli Vanilli, bearing a strong resemblance to the actual group. Wearing luxurious suits and rocking long braided extensions, the two prove that they are the perfect men for the job.
The film, which has yet to receive a release date, will be directed by Simon Verhoeven with Quirin Berg and Max Wiedemann of Leonine Studios, Sentana Film, SevenPictures, and Median, all assisting in production. Music mogul Kevin Liles of 300 Entertainment will act as executive producer. Surprisingly, he also had a hand in the group’s early success.
Robert Pilatus passed away in 1998 from a fatal drug overdose. Fabrice Morvan recently revealed that a documentary was in the works, but his involvement in the biopic is unclear.
