Millie Bobby Brown Opens Up About “Sexualization” And “Unnecessary Insults” She’s Endured On Her 16th Birthday

Millie Bobby Brown just turned 16 today and is taking a moment to reflect on the negative headlines she’s been subjected to.

The “Stranger Things” star used the occasion to take to Instagram to share a montage of several negative headlines about her time growing up in Hollywood while Justin Bieber’s song “Changes” played in the background.

The revealing post was meant to emphasize the importance of showing kindness in today’s world, for this generation and for those to come.

“Ya girls 16 :),” Brown wrote. “16 has felt like a long time coming. I feel like change needs to happen for not only this generation but the next. our world needs kindness and support in order for us children to grow and succeed.”

Brown was extremely transparent writing, “The last few years haven’t been easy, I’ll admit that,” she continued. “There are moments I get frustrated from the inaccuracy, inappropriate comments, sexualization, and unnecessary insults that ultimately have resulted in pain and insecurity for me.”

Last year, Millie was criticized and clapped back after social media followers chastised the then 15-year old for posting a picture of herself in a tight-fitting snakeskin dress.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

This year Brown is vowing “not ever will I be defeated,” writing in her post, “I’ll continue doing what I love and spreading the message in order to make change,” she said. “Let’s focus on what needs changing, and I hope this video informs you on the things that go on behind the scenes of the headlines and flashing lights. Don’t worry; I’ll always find a way to smile ? leggo 16 ♡.”
