After numerous reports of children sustaining lacerations and puncture wounds, approximately 7.5 million “Baby Shark” bath toys have been recalled.
California-based toymaker, Zuru, has recalled its robotic baby shark toys. The recall includes both full-size and mini versions due to the potential injury risks from its hard plastic top fins.
According to a recent release, twelve injuries have been reported involving Zuru’s full-sized Robo Alive Junior Baby Shark Sing & Swim Bath Toys. These injuries occurred after children accidentally sat or fell on the toys, resulting in nine cases requiring stitches or medical attention. Additionally, the recall only affects the baby shark toy versions with a hard plastic fin.
“We want to assure our customers that we are committed to the highest levels of safety and quality of all our products,” Zuru said. “And we have implemented measures to prevent future incidents by working to promptly remove these products from retail and replace them with a newly designed product.”
Nevertheless, the recalled products can be pinpointed by their model numbers and date codes. The toys apart of the recall were available for purchase at various retail chains between May 2019-March 2023. Consumers who have the recalled toys are encouraged to discontinue their use immediately and contact Zuru for a full refund. To obtain the refund, customers should cut off the tail fin of the baby shark toy and write “recalled” along with a registration code on its body. The customer must then upload a photo of the item on a website specifically created for the recall process.
