Miami Beach building collapse

One of the Surfside collapse families is celebrating a minor miracle: Their beloved cat was found alive after being missing for two weeks.

Two members of the Gonzalez family, who lived in unit 904 of the Champlain Towers South, are at Jackson Memorial Hospital recuperating. Both Angela Gonzalez and her daughter Deven survived the nine-story fall. However, Edgar Gonzalez is among the missing.

Binx had also been missing since the June 24 collapse until he was discovered at the collapse site and brought the black cat to a rescue center.

“That’s actually Deven’s cat, so I’m sure she’s going to be over the moon knowing that they found her cat,” Maria Gaspari, a family friend, told WVSN. “I just can’t believe it. I just couldn’t believe it when we received the confirmation. This is a miracle for the whole Surfside community.”

Kitty Campus, Operation PAW, and SoBe cats worked together to save Binx and reunite him with his family.

Mayor Daniella Levine Cava tweeted about the good news. “After 16 long and incredibly difficult days, I’m able to share a small piece of good news — Binx from Champlain Towers South has been found,” she wrote.

As of Saturday, the official death toll stands at 86 people, with 43 still unaccounted for.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart and on behalf of our community to the team who played a role in reuniting him with his family. pic.twitter.com/yzDxW6plHG
