The DeflateGate controversy has made its rounds from federal court to late night talk shows to every news outlet out there and now, it has even made its way to the Miss America pageant. Last night, during the question portion of the Miss America 2016 competition, Miss Georgia was asked by one of the judges whether or not she thought Tom Brady cheated during the AFC Championship game last season. “New England Quarterback Tom Brady was suspended for his part in the so-called Deflategate scandal,” judge Brett Eldredge said. “Legalities aside, did Tom Brady cheat?”
“Did he cheat?” Betty Cantrell, the contestant representing the state of Georgia, responded. “That’s a really good question, I’m not sure. I think I’d have to be there to see the ball and to feel it to make sure if it was deflated or not deflated, but if there was any question there then yes, I think he cheated. If there was any question to be had I think that he definitely cheated and he should have been suspended for that. That’s not fair.”
You could tell the question caught her completely off-guard and she just kind of rambled her way to the end of her response. But while her answer was somewhat wishy-washy, it seems like she agrees with the majority of America and believes that Tom Brady is a cheater who should have been suspended.
Was it the answer the judges were looking for? Well, she went on to beat out the other six girls left in the competition and took home the Miss America crown, so I guess it was. I think it’s safe to say there weren’t any Patriots fans among the judges.
