Local authorities are reporting that the skull of a man missing since 2012 has been found sitting on the fireplace mantle of a Tennessee resident.
The remains were identified through DNA testing to be that of Junior Willie McCann, District Attorney General Russell Johnson said in a Facebook post. DNA taken from family members was used to identify the skull. DNA from McCann’s family members were a match to the remains.
McCann had missing from Morgan County, Tennessee, since September of 2012.
The individual allegedly found the skull in March of 2019 and placed it on their mantle. It sat there for over a year, wearing sunglasses. Eventually, someone notified the Sheriff’s Department of its existence, and it was “taken into custody.”
The area where the person allegedly found the skull was extensively searched, and no additional remains were found, authorities said.
It is rumored that McCann was possibly killed by a family member, who is now deceased.
