Double Murder Suspect Killed in Shootout, Baby Shot and in Stable Condition

On Monday afternoon, a Louisiana murder suspect was killed in a shootout with police after killing two people and kidnapping his female victim’s baby before fleeing to Mississippi.

According to the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, Eric Derell Smith fatally shot his ex-girlfriend Christin Parker, 32, and her 26-year-old nephew Brandon Parker in her Baker, Louisiana apartment.

Following a 911 hang-up call, deputies arrived at the scene around 11:30 a.m. and discovered the two victims.

Before investigators arrived, Smith fled the scene with his and his ex’s 4-month-old baby.

Mississippi Highway Patrol located Smith on Interstate 10 on Monday afternoon and began a slow pursuit.

A shootout occurred at some point during the chase.

Smith was in the driver’s seat of the car when he was shot several times with a rifle. The Harrison County coroner told WLOX that the shot that killed him was not self-inflicted.

According to police, during the gunfight, Smith had the baby on his lap in the driver’s seat of the car.

According to WLOX, the baby was shot but is in stable condition and was transferred from a local hospital to USA Children’s Hospital in Mobile, Alabama.
