Mississippi Man Brutally Beaten By Cops During Traffic Stop

A black man was brutally beaten by white Mississippi Officers during a seemingly routine traffic stop earlier this month.

David Logan, a 28-year-old Water Valley resident, was stopped in a routine roadblock on July 18, in which he was instructed by officers to get out of the vehicle he was driving.

After exiting the vehicle, his behavior and actions were interpreted by officers as running away, so he was subdued and attacked.

However, Logan’s attorney, Carlos Moore told the Oxford Eagle that his client “stepped out of the car in the opposite direction of the officer. He said he was not running, and they assumed he was about to flee, and they attacked him, both were officers with the Water Valley Police Department and the Yalobusha County Sheriff’s Department.”

“They attacked him, threw him on concrete pavement, tased him, roughed him up real bad,” Moore continued.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Logan’s attorney said he was beaten so badly that he was completely naked on the ground before the chaos ended. He also contended the officers (who were all white) continued to beat his client even after he was placed in handcuffs.

Moore shared a disturbing photo of Logan on Monday that showed him shirtless in his underwear with his hands behind his back, his face beaten, his left eye swollen shut and blood streaming down his face.

Although the extent of his injuries are still not completely known, Moore claims that Logan had to be treated at two area hospitals for a broken bone near one eye and was left with double vision and sleeping issues since the incident.

The officers involved are not currently under any internal investigation.

On the other hand, according to the NY Post, Yalobusha County Sheriff Lance Humphreys confirmed the officers were checking drivers licenses at a roadblock when they pulled David Logan over and that after Logan got out of his vehicle, he ran towards officers twice.

“He lowered his shoulder and tried to go through them,” Humphreys said.

The sheriff said the officers used a stun gun on Logan and arrested him but did not beat him.

Logan was charged with Possession of ecstasy, two counts of assault on the officers, one count of resisting arrest and one count of possessing drug paraphernalia.

Since Logan was hospitalized, he did not have to post bond.
