Mississippi Teen Gunned Down Hours After Graduating High School

A young girl whose life was just beginning ended tragically after she was fatally shot hours after graduating from high school.

According to USA Today, Kennedy Hobbs, 18, became an entrepreneur at the age of 17 and was on the path to doing the right things, her friend William Edwards posted on Facebook.

“This is where Kennedy was supposed to grow up and be successful and do her thing,” he said, showing her small studio, Kaay’s Waxing Bar.

On Tuesday, Hobbs was gunned down around 10:45 p.m. at a Texaco gas station in Jackson, MS. She suffered multiple gunshots and was pronounced dead at the scene, said Sam Brown, spokesperson for the Jackson Police Department.

Police questioned four witnesses but continue to search for a possible suspect and provided no further details.

Hobbs’ family gathered outside the Jackson Police Department headquarters to ask for more information on the young girl’s death.

According to Edwards, he believes authorities have not revealed any details on the investigation to the family and have not allowed outside agencies to assist.

“Why isn’t (the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives) out here? Why isn’t (the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation) out here,” he said. “We haven’t been told anything.”

Crime in the city has skyrocketed over the past few years. The city is on target to surpass its homicide record of 130, which was set last year.
