Legendary rapper, producer, and songwriter Missy Elliott is officially a 2023 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominee.
On Wednesday, the list of nominees was revealed and featured several notable names that have contributed significantly to the world of music. However, Missy’s inclusion is a historical moment for hip-hop, as she is now the first female rapper to be nominated to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Fans worldwide rejoiced, praising the icon for such a massive accomplishment. She took to Twitter to join in with her fans, expressing immense gratitude for such an honor.
“I’ve cried my eyes out. I’ve always dreamed big, but to be nominated for this is bigger than I dreamed,” Missy wrote.

In an official statement, the 51-year-old says she was “humbled” to be nominated to the Hall of Fame, which has inducted fellow rappers such as Jay-Z, Biggie Smalls, and LL Cool J.
Throughout her illustrious career, the four-time Grammy award winner has written music for Aaliyah, Whitney Houston, Destiny’s Child, Janet Jackson, Ginuwine, Mariah Carey, and so many more. In 2019, Missy was honored with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award and in 2021, she became the first rapper in history to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Additionally, Missy is the only female rapper to have six platinum albums.
Fans have until April 28th to vote for Missy on the official Rock & Roll Hall of Fame website.
