In a move that’s been described as long overdue, rapper, producer and songwriter, Missy Misdemeanor Elliott will receive the MTV Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the 2019 VMA Awards. If that wasn’t enough, the groundbreaking visionary will also perform live at the awards show for the first time in 16 years, Variety reports.
“Missy’s impact on the music landscape is indelible,” MTV International co-brand head and Viacom music talent head, Bruce Gillmer said. “Her creative vision across production, performance and songwriting is unmatched.”
Just two months after making history as the first female rapper, third rapper overall, to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, the superstar best known for her hits, “Work It,” “Get Ur Freak On,” and more, will be adding, yet, another accolade to her extensive resume.
Hosted by Sebastian Maniscalco, the 2019 MTV VMA’s well kick off on August 26, live in Newark, New Jersey.
