Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is welcoming President-elect Joe Biden with open arms, but some Republicans ain’t having it. However, McConnell warns his party that rejecting Biden won’t be in their best interest.
We’re getting closer and closer to things somewhat going back to normal as Biden prepares to enter the White House as the 46th President of the United States of America. And for the last month, since the results from the Presidential election were confirmed, Donald Trump supporters and Republicans have disowned Biden as their new commander-in-chief.
But some Republicans, like Senate Majority Leader McConnell, have turned around. In a conference, McConnell warned Republicans not to object to the Electoral College’s vote, or when Biden is sworn in on Jan. 6. “Our country has officially a president-elect and a vice president-elect,” McConnell said on the Senate floor on Tuesday, congratulating Biden.
“The Electoral College has spoken. So today I want to congratulate President-elect Joe Biden” and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, he continued. Supporting McConnell’s words was Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., who said Republican officials should “follow Leader McConnell’s lead and acknowledge now that Joe Biden will be the next president of the United States.”
The resistance to accept Biden comes as Trump continues to spew false claims about the Electoral College and voting process, claiming voter fraud rigged the election in Biden’s favor. “Tremendous evidence pouring in on voter fraud. There has never been anything like this in our Country!” Trump tweeted. McConnell called Republicans dismissal of Biden is a “terrible move,” adding that Republicans would then have to defy Trump on record by voting against the objection, McConnell said, CNBC reports.
Whether they like it or not: Biden is going to be the president, and Trump’s alleged former best bud Russian President Vladamir Putin is even coming around to give congrats to Biden. In a telegram to Biden, Putin sent a message wishing “every success to the president-elect.”
