According to reports from Capitol Hill, the Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell says he doesn’t have any health concerns after questions were raised about pictures that showed him with severe bruising around his hands and mouth.
On Thursday, he was asked if “there anything going on we should know about?” McConnell said, “Of course not.”
During his debate against Senate Democratic challenger Amy McGrath earlier this October, McConnell had no noticeable bruisings on his hands.
McConnell is on track to beat McGrath for his seventh six-year term. By the end of the term, he will be 84 going on 85, which isn’t an unusual age for someone in the Senate.
McConnell has brushed off questions about his health before. When asked about Covid-19, he said, “Have I ever been tested? Yes.” He added, “but I’m not going to answer questions about when.”
According to the fact-checking website Snopes, they produced a short article that confirmed McConnell’s hands’ photos were real.
“Why McConnell’s hands exhibit purplish bruises and bandages has prompted much speculation,” the article said.
With guesses ranging from claims that the senator has contracted Covid-19 to the possibility that he has a vascular disease and/or is undergoing dialysis and is taking blood thinners.
Neither McConnell nor any of his representatives have publicly commented on his condition.
