Kanye West is scheduled to sit down with Donald Trump and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, on Thursday to discuss prison reform, jobs in Chicago and gang violence. ⠀
But, while West’s intentions are noble, R&B superstar Monica says it’s time to nip the entire ordeal in the bud because it’s doing more harm than good at this point.
In a short interview with TMZ at LAX on Tuesday, the singer opened up about West’s controversial rants and relationship with Donald Trump.
“He has to reassess this entire relationship [with Donald Trump],” Monica said. “I think that it is going to continuously hurt us, if we aren’t all speaking together in the right places, making the right decisions -doing it the right way.”
“I think that a lot of times it’s not what you do, it’s how you do it. How he’s gone about it has been very conflicting and it’s left people to not even hear what he’s saying at this point,” she continued. “I hope that whatever he says in the meeting helps somebody, but at this point this whole relationship needs to be assessed and completely demolished. I don’t think it’s going to be as productive as our communities need it to be.”
As the interview continued, Monica did commend his wife, #KimKardashian, for using her platform to “accomplish something for a grandmother that should have never been behind bars as long as she was.” But, maintained her criticisms of West’s Trump antics.
“It’s not productive at this point in the communities, particularly because we don’t hear the message behind the antics,” she said. “Like I said, some of what is being said is important but is he the president to help create all this change? I don’t think so,” she said.
