Monica is working on new music, and fans would be surprised to know her next album will be different from what they would typically expect from the R&B veteran.
In an interview with Billboard, Monica revealed that her upcoming project will be a country album.
The songstress revealed that she is currently working in the studio with singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile on an album entitled “Trenches” that will showcase her admiration for country music.
“I grew up loving country music and my stepfather, who raised me, is a Methodist minister, but he also drove buses, and he would take us to Nashville, Gatlinburg, and Dollywood in Tennessee. I became a really big fan of Dolly Parton at about 8 or 9 years old. That was my real introduction to country music,” the “Angel of Mine” singer explained.
Monica recently gave fans a glimpse of her country singing skills in June on Jimmie Allen’s latest album, “Bettie James.” She also worked with Dolly Parton on a charity single entitled “Pink,” which let her know she was ready to release her own music.
“I felt like this was a great time for me to really step into an area that I’ve always admired and loved. We’re just getting started, but I have so enjoyed it and been welcomed with open arms.”
