The fight continues. In case you missed it, Mo’Nique and D.L. Hughley are going back and forth on social media following a contract mix-up. Mo’Nique claims she was supposed to be the main act for a comedy show, but D.L. Hughley says he would always be the headline.
After D.L. Hughley responded to the fellow comedians’ insults on stage, saying she needs to take some accountability for all of the fallouts in her life, he posted receipts on Instagram and his deal memo that was dated March 29, 2022. Mo’Nique’s alleged performance deal was dated March 28, 2022. She fired back in a series of receipts, saying people are getting confused with “performance agreement” and “deal memo,” then offered both of hers. In an effort to clear the air, D.L. Hughley says the promoters are to blame, but Mo’Nique isn’t stopping.
Mo’Nique took to Instagram live today saying everything she said about D.L. Hughley on stage was “intentional.”
“The contract situation and the headliner situation, that was just the icing on the cake for D.L. Hughley and I.”
She then goes back in time to discuss what really happened between D.L. Hughley and her, all stemming from an interview on Hughley’s radio show back in the day.
The ultimate ending of the comedians’ relationship came from a “Would You Rather” game in which the interviewer asked Mo’Nique: “would you rather your husband sleep with Lee Daniels with a condom or Karrine Steffans without one?”
She pointed out that D.L. was not there that day, but she said to his team, “Let me call D.L. Hughley.” She knew that the comedian would have a problem with the disrespectful question.
But D.L.’s response was, “That’s just how we do. And that’s what it is.” She suggested he never air the interview because it would look bad to the community, and he never did.
“Through the years, I’ve listened to this man talk about all that I’m not, what I didn’t deserve, ‘I was mentally ill, I was bitter, me and my husband did poor business, I was selfish, I was fanatic, I was psychotic,’ now don’t take my word, please. You can Google it for yourself.”
She did admit when she made the joke on stage that she didn’t expect D.L. Hughley to be offended or in his feelings. She doesn’t believe he is a homosexual and was making a joke. She says, “you got tender.”
