The co-captain of the Harriott II has now been charged in the viral Montgomery riverfront brawl.
According to CNN, Damien Pickett is being charged with third-degree assault and is scheduled to be arraigned on Nov. 21.
The complainant in Pickett’s case was listed as Zachery “Chase” Shipman, one of the initial defendants who claimed he was only defending himself and had no intention of engaging in a fight.
The viral incident on Aug. 5 unfolded when the Harriott II crew encountered difficulty docking due to an obstruction caused by a pontoon boat from Selma. Pickett, captured on camera attempting to move the pontoon, was then attacked by a group of white individuals. Subsequently, a group of Black individuals came to Pickett’s defense.
Mary Todd and Richard Roberts, two of the original defendants, pleaded guilty. Meanwhile, three others, Zachary Shipman, Allen Todd and Reggie Ray, all face trial in the coming weeks.
