Moonlight Companies is pulling several batches of its conventional yellow and white peaches from store shelves due to concerns they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The recall, which also includes Kroger-branded peaches, was issued on October 29 and affects products sold between September 16 and October 29 across the United States.
The impacted peaches were available as individual fruits with PLU stickers or sold in multi-packs. Products labeled “Washington” or “Organic” are not part of the recall.
Listeria is a potentially dangerous bacteria, particularly for pregnant women, young children, older adults, and those with weakened immune systems. “Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women,” the company stated. Healthy people could experience fever, nausea, and other short-term symptoms.
The contamination was identified inside the packing facility. So far, there have been no reports of illness.
Moonlight Companies is working with the FDA on this recall. Concerned customers are urged to discard the affected fruit and contact the company at 855-215-5017 for more details.
