Yasiin Bey a/k/a Mos Def gave his thoughts on rapper Drake’s music, and according to him, it’s not real hip-hop.
During an appearance on “The Cutting Room Floor,” the MC didn’t hold back when the host asked him if he considers the Canadian rapper to be “hip-hop,” he said Drake is pop.
He went on to say Drake’s hits are compatible with shopping, with some instances being a little more edgy. In other words, he feels Drake’s music is friendly to listen to.
He also said Drake is mainstream and commercial while questioning if Drake even challenges his fans when it comes to making music.
As for Drake, this isn’t the first time he has been called pop or not hip-hop. Regardless of opinions, Drake says he can battle it out with the best. Either way, he’s at the top of the music list.
