Baller Alert’s Year In Review: Most Shocking Celeb Moments Of 2022 That We’ll Never Forget

With 2023 quickly closing in, we are left to reflect on a hectic year filled with many laughs and, sadly, an endless amount of tears.  Whether it was political turmoil or unexpected deaths, this year was most definitely eventful.  Luckily, the celebrities kept the blogs busy with their antics and were a welcome distraction from our own real-world drama.

Before we kiss the year goodbye, we put together our favorite wild moments from a few famous folks that left our jaws on the floor.

Antonio Brown Walks off the Field

In January, during a game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the New York Jets, Antonio Brown, who was still relatively new to the Bucs roster, pulled off his helmet, jersey, and pads and ran off the field.  Following the game, former Bucs head coach Bruce Arians confirmed Brown was no longer a part of the team.

Will Smith Slaps Chris Rock

During the 94th Academy Awards, legendary actor Will Smith walked onstage and slapped the taste from the mouth of comedian Chris Rock after he made a joke about Smith’s actress wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith.  The slap still haunts Smith as he settles into a 10-year Oscar Award ban.

Kanye West Drama

Kanye West kicked off his fall from grace with a line of “White Lives Matter” shirts in October during his Paris Fashion Week show.  From there, the Yeezy founder began making anti-semitic comments, the most damning being his Twitter rant where he threatened to go “death con 3 on JEWISH PEOPLE” after being banned from Instagram. Since then, he has continued to make hurtful comments, including expressing his love for Adolf Hitler on an episode of “Infowars” with Alex Jones. Due to his controversial remarks, West has lost his long-running Yeezy shoe deal with Adidas, his partnership with Balenciaga, GAP, and several others.

In addition to his business woes, the rapper went through a bitter divorce from Kim Kardashian. He even called out her parenting skills for allowing their daughter North West to use TikTok. During her relationship with Pete Davidson, Ye antagonized him with threats on social media. In the end, though he fought tooth and nail against the divorce, a judge ruled Kardashian legally single in March. Their divorce was finalized in November.

Migos Fallout & Takeoff’s Untimely Death

Rumors of the Migos breaking up have swirled since the group released “Bad & Boojie” in 2016, which notoriously excluded Takeoff. Despite solo verses and projects, the group maintained that they were still unified. Unfortunately, 2022 saw these rumors intensify as Takeoff and Quavo were spotted together more often without Offset. In October, the group confirmed that Offset was no longer a part of the loved trio. The root of the issues appeared to be contract issues that Offset was unhappy about.

As Migos moved on as a twosome, the group and the hip-hop world were dealt a devastating blow when Takeoff was murdered on November 1st following a bowling alley dispute. Offset and Quavo both appeared at his funeral, but it is unknown if they plan on continuing the group in Takeoff’s honor.

Elon Musk Twitter Takeover

After a months-long deal to buy Twitter, Musk finally took over the app in October, and things were never the same. Random people were suddenly allowed to pay for blue checks, Twitter Spaces was eliminated, hate speech increased drastically, and hundreds of employees were left without jobs.

Musk recently announced that he’d be stepping down following a Twitter poll pleading with him to do so.

Nia Long & Ime Udoka Cheating Scandal

In September, news broke that our favorite it-girl, Nia Long, had been cheated on by her longtime partner, Celtics coach Ime Udoka. According to the team, he had an affair with the wife of someone who works for the organization. Some reports point to Kathleen Nimmo Lynch, a Celtics’ team service manager. Other reports have said Udoka cheated with a Celtics’ minority owner’s wife. While she remained tightlipped at first, a representative for Long confirmed that the couple had gone their separate ways.

“GMA3” Hosts Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes Affair

When news broke in November that “GMA3” hosts Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes were carrying on an affair outside their marriages, social media was set ablaze. The two were spotted out and about together and appeared on air together after the relationship was made public. Since then, both anchors have been removed from their positions as ABC launches an investigation. Both are said to be going through divorces, and the future of their careers remains in limbo.

Khloé Kardashian Welcomes a Second Child With Tristan Thompson

Tristan “Third Trimester” Thompson made headlines when it was revealed that he welcomed a child with fitness model Maralee Nichols. A DNA test confirmed that he was the pappy in January. After the latest embarrassment, fans were sure that Khloe Kardashian was done with the NBA pro for good. Shockingly, the socialite revealed that she and Thompson welcomed a baby via surrogate in July 2022. The child was conceived via surrogate in November 2021. Despite their new bundle of joy, Kardashian has confirmed they are not together.

Tory Lanez Stands Trial for Shooting Megan Thee Stallion

The trial that fans have been waiting for finally got underway this month. Tory Lanez was tried for shooting former friend Megan Thee Stallion in her foot during a 2020 altercation. The world waited anxiously to hear the details of what happened on that bizarre night. The trial left more questions than answers. Lanez’s legal team conveniently placed the blame on Meg’s former best friend, Kelsey Harris, while she suddenly developed amnesia on the stand and couldn’t recall critical elements of the shooting. The star witness, who was the homeowner who allegedly saw the shooting unfold, further confused the jury, claiming to see Harris and Lanez fire shots. Tory Lanez was found guilty of all three charges against him — felony negligent discharge of a firearm, assault with a semiautomatic firearm and carrying a loaded and unregistered firearm. He was handcuffed and remanded into custody on the spot. He is expected to be sentenced on January 27, 2023, and faces more the 22 years in prison and deportation.

Which one of these crazy occurrences left you speechless this year? One thing is for sure; next year is sure to bring about all new celebrity scandals, viral moments, and memes.
