A 25-year-old woman is facing murder charges after leaving her one-year-old baby girl in a hot car while she got her hair done.
According to Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Dijanelle Fowler had a hair appointment in the Northlake Tower Festival Shopping Center at 10 am. Fowler reportedly drove to the Tucker area with Skylar Fowler, her one-year-old, in the backseat. She then parked in the parking lot and turned on the air conditioning just before heading into the salon at 10:06 a.m. Six hours later, at around 4 pm, Fowler was seen leaving the salon.
Shortly after, Fowler summoned help from a man inside the salon because the car had cut off after running the air for several hours. Officials believe the man did not see the baby because Fowler covered her up with clothes that were already in the vehicle.
Once the car started running, Fowler told Skylar’s godfather that she was heading to urgent care to treat her headaches. However, police say, she also “Googled about signs of seizures” during that time.
According to reports, Fowler arrived at Emory University Hospital around 4:54 p.m., just before she called 911 to report that she’d been “having a seizure of some kind.” When police arrived, they found Skylar unresponsive, revealing that she had been dead for “some period of time.”
A medical examiner determined that Fowler’s story did not add up and that her daughter had been dead for much longer. After reviewing surveillance footage and tracking Fowler’s Google searches, police had enough information to come up with a correct timeline surrounding the baby’s death. However, before officials could arrest her in early July, Fowler had already skipped town.
Fowler allegedly traveled to #SouthCarolina, #NewJersey and #Florida before turning herself in on Monday.
Police have charged her with second-degree murder in the death of her one-year-old. Fowler has also been charged with child cruelty and concealing the June 15th death of her child. She is being held without bond.
