A mother is being charged with attempted murder after brutally attacking her 3-year-old daughter with a pair of scissors.
Anne Catherine Akers of Maryland was arrested after her father visited her home on Saturday and saw blood on the floor. He immediately fled the residence and called 911. Once the authorities arrived, they found the 28-year-old on her bedroom floor with a laceration to her neck. Upon removing a blanket that Akers held, they located her daughter with a severe wound to her neck.
Officer immediately performed life-saving measures on the toddler, who had to be airlifted to a local hospital. Akers was also transported to a nearby hospital for her injuries. She has since been released and transferred to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility, where she has been charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and first-degree child abuse. The woman will undergo a “court-ordered mental health evaluation” before the case moves forward.
The child’s condition is unknown at this time.
