A mother pleads for “justice to be served” following the death of her 6-year-old son, who was killed on a California highway in an apparent road-rage shooting.
“They took my son’s life away,” Aiden Leos’ mother, Joanna Cloonan, said during an interview with Good Morning America.
“He was beautiful and he was kind and he was precious, and you killed him for no reason. And I want to find them and I want there to be justice to be served for my son.”
The shooter remains at large.
According to the New York Post, Cloonan was driving her son to school on Friday morning. She says a white sedan cut her off on the 55 Freeway.
“As I started to merge away from them, I heard a really loud noise,” Cloonan said. “And my son said, ‘Ow,’ and I had to pull over. And he got shot.”
“I pulled over and I took him out of the car and I tried to put my hand on his wounds while calling 911. Because he was losing a lot of blood,” she continued.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead.
“He meant the world to me, and it feels like my life is over,” Cloonan said. “That was my baby. I’ve never, never thought pain like this could exist.”
Police are still searching for the shooter.
“I hope that people see this [interview] and understand that this is not OK, whatever and whoever these people are and for whatever reason, this is not OK,” the mother said. “It should never happen again. So whatever help this does, that’s my intention for my son.”
