The mother of a six-year-old who was paddled on camera by her principal is now under investigation.
A video of two women disciplining a student while the child’s mother watched has gone viral online, and now authorities want to know what their home is like. The little girl seen in the video and two of her siblings were pulled out of class on Tuesday by the Florida Department of Children and Families.
The children were then interviewed about how their mother treats them at home. According to the family’s lawyer, the children’s removal from class and their interrogation were all done without notifying their mother. TMZ reports the children were asked if their mother was abusive at home, to which they replied “no.” However, investigators want to know why the mother did not step in when the principal was paddling her children.
Investigators allegedly received a tip that the mother was neglectful, but there is reportedly no evidence. The family’s lawyer, Brent Probinsky, says it is unacceptable for law enforcement to go after the mother, saying the principal is at fault.
According to TMZ, the mother allegedly didn’t step in because she is undocumented and did not want to reveal her identity. The news outlet reports a language barrier, and the mother didn’t know what was going to happen before the child got a whooping. The matter is currently still under investigation.
