An Australian mother calls for a store to take down its Halloween display because her child is scared of it.
On Thursday, a mother went to a store at the Ferny Grove where she came across some spooky decorations a store put together for the upcoming Halloween holiday. The mother allegedly believes the display was “too” terrifying and took to Facebook to talk about it.
“I was quite taken aback by the Halloween display at the storefront counter with the skulls and quite scary/frightening things and gravestones for young children to see,” she wrote about the display at the store called Coles. She added that she felt the decorations were “too scary for her children” and didn’t want her kids to see “dark and scary” things at a supermarket, Daily Mail reports.
Some parents agreed with the mother on the post. One person wrote: “100% agree. We avoid taking the kids to the shops at this time of year. So many stores are doing hideous, scary displays that I don’t want my kids seeing.” Another person commented, “I’ve not seen the display, but my poor nine-year-old is having extremely bad nightmares since seeing one of the Coles displays.”
However, some parent’s felt that it just wasn’t that deep, adding that their children reacted to the Halloween display just fine. “I couldn’t disagree more. My 3 and 6-year-old love the display, it’s a work of art and a great conversation piece. I’ve heard many positive comments and think this sensitivity is too much,” a parent commented.
In a statement to Daily Mail, Coles said it simply enjoys Halloween.
“Every year we see more customers looking for ways to celebrate the fun of Halloween and some of our stores are getting into the spirit with spooky decorations,’ said Coles. “Our intention is to inspire customers, not frighten them, so we are grateful for customer feedback and will follow up with our stores.”
