Authorities have released the mugshot of Colt Gray, the 14-year-old accused of carrying out a tragic shooting at Apalachee High School in Georgia that left four people dead and nine others injured. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation made the photo public after Gray’s arrest and detention.
The released image shows Gray with a blank expression, wearing a juvenile detention uniform. This image follows the events of Wednesday morning when the shooting unfolded. Gray, identified as the shooter by the authorities, opened fire inside his school.
Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith explained that a school resource officer quickly intervened after shots were fired. Gray reportedly decided to surrender at the scene, avoiding further escalation. “He realized that if he did not give himself up, he would have been shot,” Sheriff Smith noted. Gray is now being held in a Department of Juvenile Justice facility.
The victims of this tragic event have been identified as 14-year-old Mason Schermerhorn, 14-year-old Christian Angulo, 39-year-old Richard Aspinwall, and 53-year-old Christina Irimie. Nine others were injured, including David Phenix, a school staff member, who was shot in the foot and hip.
