Several children were killed, and dozens of people were injured in shootings across the country over Fourth of July weekend.
8-year-old Secoriea Turner was killed in Atlanta when someone fired into the car she was sitting in on the Fourth of July. The shooting took place in the same area of the Wendy’s, where police fatally shot Rayshard Brooks.
11-year-old Davon McNeal of Washington D.C. got out of the car to get a phone charger on Saturday when five adult men began shooting. McNeal was struck by a stray bullet and later died at a hospital; his grandfather told WUSA.
A 7-year-old girl was shot in the head while standing on a sidewalk outside her grandmother’s house in Chicago during a Fourth of July Party. Identified as Natalia Wallace by CBS2, the girl was taken to the hospital after being shot in the forehead, where she later died.
A 14-year-old boy was also killed in Chicago over the weekend when four males opened fire on a large gathering on Saturday. Four people died.
An 8-year-old boy was shot and killed in an Alabama mall shooting that left three others injured. Royta De’Marco Giles was caught in a crossfire between four adult males at the Riverchase Galleria mall, according to a statement from the Hoover Police Department. 22-year-old Montez Coleman has been arrested for murder in connection with the shooting.
In St. Louis, a 4-year-old boy was shot in the head by a stray bullet on Saturday. The child was taken to the hospital and is listed in critical condition.
A 6-year-old boy, who has not been identified, was shot and killed in San Francisco late Saturday night. The child was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
Adults were also victims of gun violence over the weekend as shootings rang out in cities across the country. Chicago saw 75 people shot over the weekend, 13 of them fatally. New York had at least 44 shootings, according to CNN, with 63 victims. Two are dead, and eight were injured in a South Carolina nightclub shooting where rapper Foogiano was originally scheduled to perform.
