It makes sense why Muni Long wanted a “Time Machine.”
In a TikTok video, the “Hrs and Hrs” singer revealed she missed an opportunity with Drake because of her “jealous” boyfriend.
In the video, she captioned, “That one time in 2008 I missed out on a Drake feature because my bf at the time found out he was pulling up to the studio and flew into a jealous rage so I chickened out and quit responding to his texts.” It’s clear the boyfriend is an ex now.
In an interview with Apple Music 1, Muni Long addressed her relationship with Drake. Before the Toronto rapper blew up, she did a cover of his song “Best I Ever Had.” Around the time he released his first mixtape, So Far So Gone, the two connected, and he was impressed with her vocals.
She says, “I recorded a cover of ‘Best I Ever Had’ where I played it on guitar, sang it instead of rapped it,” she said. “That went viral so much that Drake reached out to me, and he was like, ‘Yo, I love what you did with the song.’ He gave me his number, we’re talking. Mind you, I’m just out of high school.”
She continues, “And I was watching him on Degrassi when I was in middle school and high school. So I’m like, ‘Oh my God, this is Aubrey Graham. This is amazing! Wheelchair Jimmy.’ I remember talking to him back then, and he’s like, ‘Yeah, I’m an actor. I’m trying to get into music. I did this mixtape for Valentine’s Day. Didn’t really take it serious. People love it. I’m singing. Lil Wayne wants to sign me.”
Though Drake hasn’t addressed their history, it’s not shocking she was discovered so young. She solidified her music career by writing songs for big names like Rihanna, Mariah Carey, and Kelly Rowland. “Hrs and Hrs” went viral on TikTok, a song she says was inspired by her friends, All American’s Bre- Z and fiancé Chris Amor.
