In an incredible anniversary, hip-hop has finally turned 50!  And what better way to celebrate the crazy, sexy, cool style than in a museum?

The Museum at FIT will “Fresh, Fly, and Fabulous: Fifty Years of Hip Hop Style,” which celebrates 50 years since the introduction of hip-hop in the industry.

The exhibition, which will be held from Feb. 8 to April 23, 2023, is set to feature over 100 pieces of garments, all celebrating the style.  On display will be looks worn by icons like Missy Elliot, LL Cool J, Aaliyah, Khaled, Lil Nas X, Cardi B, and more.  Classic brands like Rocawear, Baby Phat, Pelle Pelle, Sean John,  Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Versace will also be on display.

“It was important for The Museum at FIT to organize this exhibition because hip hop—the most influential music genre of our era—has had such a profound impact on the world of fashion,” says  Dr. Valerie Steele, the chief curator and director of MFIT.

“Furthermore, hip hop fashion and music are cultural expressions of the African and Hispanic cultural diasporas, which MFIT seeks to amplify as part of our goal to expand the understanding of fashion.”
