Singer Mya celebrates her 45th birthday on October 10th and she remains one of the most beloved singers of the late 1990s and early 2000s.
The Washington D.C. star burst onto the scene in 1998 with her self-titled debut album. Blending elements of pop and R&B, she introduced hits such as “It’s All About Me” featuring Sisqó and “Movin’ On” featuring Silkk the Shocker. The album was a commercial success, moving over one million copies and peaking at number 29 on the U.S. Billboard 200.
One of Mya’s biggest accomplishments arrived in 2002 when she won a Grammy Award for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals for her role in the chart-topping single “Lady Marmalade” alongside Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim, and Pink. The song became a global sensation, a standout from the “Moulin Rouge” soundtrack.
In addition to her musical achievements, Mya is known for her versatility. She has taken on roles in film and on Broadway. The multifaceted performer has starred in films such as “Chicago,” which won an Academy Award for Best Picture.
Today, Mya continues to tour and perform her biggest hits and is celebrated for her timeless beauty. She attributes much of this to veganism and even a seven-year celibacy journey.
