After a recent interview with former N.B.A. player Lamar Odom, Drink Champs show host N.O.R.E. is speaking out on the heated exchange between him and Odom.
The rapper turned podcast host sat down with the former Laker to talk about his recovery, Kobe, Khloe Kardashian, and more. But two hours in, things went downhill when N.O.R.E. brought up Odom’s championship ring.
“I feel disrespected, man,” Odom told N.O.R.E. during the interview. ”I don’t want t make it a beef but put your shoes on my feet. Like I fuck with you. This whole angle on this interview went like crazy.”
”I kept bringing up the fact that he has a ring, but I did not know that he actually lost his rings,” N.O.R.E. explained in a statement with Page Six. “So, in retrospect, he might’ve thought I was joking or making fun of him. So, he basically lost his rings, which he thought was public knowledge, but I didn’t know. He thought that I was clowning him, so he was upset with that. And I made it known that I wasn’t aware.”
However, that wasn’t the only thing about the interview that got people talking. Fans were shocked that Odom even accepted the opportunity to be on the show given his past with addiction, being that the show features drinking and smoking.
Taking to Twitter to defend having Odom on the show, N.O.R.E. explained his reasoning to fans who bombarded him with their own questions and opinions.
“No one is told they must drink and no one is told they must come here, they do that on they own no one is younger than 21,” he explained to one user, adding that though all parties played a role in the situation, it was ultimately Odom’s choice to go on the show.
When another fan said they shouldn’t have offered Odom any drinks at all, N.O.R.E. responded, “He asked for the drinks!!! And the name of the show is what again oh ok #DrinkChamps he grown and made a grown-up move.”
Another fan mentioned even claimed Odom wasn’t ready for such an interview, calling it “irresponsible journalism and even more horrible friend/ brotherhood, to which N.O.R.E. responded, “I’m the same every show so who’s really wrong here!!!”
