Najee Harris, the first-round draft pick, selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers’ spent time in a homeless shelter with his family growing up in Richmond, California.
According to WSBTV, the running back from the University of Alabama returned to the Greater Richmond Interfaith Program shelter for an NFL draft party. Harris lived there with his parents and four siblings when he was 12.
Harris decorated the shelter with football-themed decorations and provided pizza, chicken, cupcakes, and goodie bags, for the guests. He also took photos with the shelter workers and other families who live there.
“That little time we had helped my family out to find another place to stay, so just giving back to the communities and giving back to places like this means a lot to me,” Harris told the news station.
