The House of Representatives isn’t scheduled to come back to D.C. until September 14, but House Speaker Nancy Pelosi wants to bring everyone back to save the post office.
In a letter to Democrats on Sunday, Pelosi wrote that they must stop Postmaster General Louise DeJoy from destroying the USPS ahead of the general election.
In the letter, Pelosi called DeJoy a “complicit crony” who is apart of Donald Trump’s “campaign to sabotage the election by manipulating the Postal Service to disenfranchise voters.”
DeJoy is a major Republican donor who took office in June and made radical changes, including banning overtime and removing mail sorting machines, which caused mail backups across the country.
Pelosi said DeJoy’s changes “threaten to deny the ability of eligible Americans to cast their votes through the mail in the upcoming elections in a timely fashion.”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“These delays also threaten the health and economic security of the American people by delaying delivery of life-saving medicines and payments. In 2019, 1.2 billion prescriptions were delivered through the Postal Services, including almost 100 percent from the VA to veterans,” she added.
Trump, who said he wouldn’t fund the USPS, denied it was to sabotage the election.
“I’m just making [the U.S. Postal Service] good,” Trump said on Fox News Monday. “I want to make the Post Office great again.”
