A young Tenessee ICU Nurse was shot and killed Thursday night while driving to work.
Around 6:30 p.m., a bullet hit Caitlyn Marie Kaufman, 26, while driving her Mazda SUV on Interstate 440.
Kaufman proceeded to pull over, but it was not until hours later that a local police officer noticed her car.
When the officer approached her vehicle, he noticed she had been wounded. Immediately, he called for back up, but Kaufman ended up dying at the scene.
Police spokesman Don Aaron said, “Kaufman died quickly from her injuries but that her body was in the car for hours,” the Tennessean reported.
No arrests have been made, and there are currently no suspects.
“The sudden death of such a young nurse is always devastating, but even more so due to senseless violence. These are very emotionally trying times for health care workers. Our deepest condolences go out to Caitlyn’s family, friends, and colleagues at St. Thomas West,” the Tennessee Nurses Association told News 4 on Friday, reported by ABC.
According to ABC News, Kaufman is the third Saint Thomas West nurse that has been killed since 2016.
