In celebration of National Cinema Day on August 27th, movie tickets all across the United States will be offered at significant discounts.
On Monday, theater owners revealed that the second edition of National Cinema Day will take place on Sunday, August 27. During this event, all movies, across various formats and showtimes, will be available for $4 at select theaters. Over 3,000 theaters, including a substantial amount of cinemas in the United States, including major chains like AMC and Regal, will be participating in this initiative.
“Following the rousing success of the first annual National Cinema Day. We welcome everyone to join us for the communal experience of one of America’s favorite pasttimes — moviegoing,” says the president of the Cinema Foundation. “We look forward to gathering at the movies and celebrating an exciting slate of new releases and classics. From beloved family favorites and outrageous comedies to thought-provoking dramas and thrilling adventures. There’s something for everyone.”
For the second consecutive year, theaters are presenting the one-day event as summer draws to a close. The first National Cinema Day was deemed a significant achievement. On Saturday, September 3, 2022, approximately 8.1 million moviegoers purchased tickets for $3 each. The promotional strategy resulted in the most well-attended day of the year for theaters. What is typically a quieter period saw movie theater packed with customers, leading to high popcorn sales. In the current year, the event has been adjusted to take place a bit earlier, transitioning from a Saturday to a Sunday, and the ticket price has increased by $1.
Additionally, the event also serves as an opportunity for studios to entice audiences with their upcoming fall releases. A preview of eagerly awaited autumn films will be showcased before each screening.
