Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. released a statement confirming that its National President, Cheryl A. Hickmon, has passed away.
Hickman had recently been elected as the 27th National President this past November, HBCU Buzz reported.
Hickmon was initiated into the sorority through the Alpha Xi Chapter while attending South Carolina State University. She was from Class 1984 and pursued her B.S. in Professional Biology.
By the time she graduated from the university, she had become president of the Alpha Xi Chapter. She also went on to become a Clinical Laboratory Project Manager and Senior Clinical Technology Supervisor.
The sorority was never far from her heart. She went on to gain experience by doing work on a regional level. She served as President of the Hartford Alumnae Chapter of Hartford, Connecticut for two terms, and during her tenure, one of her goals was to increase fundraising to help fund scholarships for students in the area.
Regionally, Hickmon was a leader for years, serving as Regional Director for the Eastern Region for four years, and also led the sorority’s South Atlantic region as Regional Representative for two years.
Hickmon’s appointment as National President came about during the sorority’s 55th National Convention in November of last year.
She had also served as National First Vice President, National Secretary, and more.
