National Voter Registration Day is an annual celebration dedicated to ensuring that every eligible American is registered to vote. This year, it falls on September 17th, marking an important reminder for all citizens to take a moment and check their voter registration status. Whether you’re registering for the first time, updating your information, or simply confirming your registration, this day serves as a vital call to action for civic engagement. Now more than ever, it’s important to make sure your voice is heard in the upcoming November election.

Michelle Obama’s nonpartisan initiative, When We All Vote, is turning National Voter Registration Day into a full National Voter Registration Week of Action from September 16-22. With Election Day less than 50 days away and some states’ registration deadlines fast approaching, this week-long campaign is an essential opportunity to ensure that every eligible voter is registered and ready to participate.
This year, under the theme ‘Together,’ When We All Vote is hosting various events and partnerships to register thousands of Americans. The week is filled with activities ranging from voter registration drives to concerts and sports events, all designed to boost participation and awareness.
On National Voter Registration Day, When We All Vote will transform the sold-out WNBA game between the Atlanta Dream and Chicago Sky into a large-scale voter registration event. The game will feature special voting activations, a video message, and a new merchandise collaboration, all intended to motivate fans to register. In addition, a voter registration tour of Georgia schools will kick off with the Hoop Bus, focusing on getting eligible young people registered.
To engage a broader audience, When We All Vote is also hosting live DJ sets on Twitch throughout the day, featuring Questlove and DJs from Mix4Change. This online event blends entertainment with education, encouraging viewers to check their voter registration status while enjoying the music.
Throughout the week, a series of special initiatives will take place across the country. These include Lime debuting bikes and scooters with QR codes leading to voter registration links and the BLK dating app sending push notifications urging users to register. Over 100 voter registration drives are planned nationwide, making it easy and accessible for everyone to get involved.
National Voter Registration Day and the Week of Action are crucial for ensuring that every eligible voter is registered and ready to participate in the upcoming elections. Voting is a fundamental right and a cornerstone of democracy, and staying registered is the first step in exercising that right. With over 40 million Gen Zers eligible to vote in the upcoming election, the emphasis on voter registration is more critical than ever.
