NBA YoungBoy has encountered a setback in his federal firearms trial, as the government has secured permission to introduce a crucial piece of evidence that was initially barred.
According to court documents, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit reviewed a motion to appeal submitted by the U.S. government on Friday. In their appeal, the government requested the court’s permission to reintroduce a video showing the Louisiana rapper holding a firearm.
Due to being a convicted felon, YoungBoy is prohibited from having or displaying a firearm. Initially, the courts sided with YoungBoy, ruling that the video could not be admitted as evidence in his pending federal firearms trial. However, the Court of Appeals overturned the lower court’s ruling.
“The government has appealed, arguing that he had neither a protected property interest in video footage filmed by a third party nor a reasonable expectation of privacy therein. We agree with the government and therefore REVERSE the district court’s contrary judgment,” the order read.
In October 2021, NBA YoungBoy, who was facing two federal gun charges, was granted release on a $1.5 million bail and placed under house arrest. The conditions of his release allowed him to have a maximum of three visitors at a time, along with his wife, a producer, and his business manager, all of whom resided in the same home. The rapper attempted to challenge these restrictions in July but his request to be released from house arrest was ultimately rejected.
