NBC has signed off on a new comedy competition show that seeks to highlight up and coming comedic talent.
“Bring The Funny” is the new comedy competition series that will be looking for the next big comedic star. NBC will be teaming up with comedy festival Just For Laughs to launch the show, and the pilot season will feature ten episodes. The star-studded judges include some of the greats in the comedy realm, including SNL’s #KenanThompson, #JeffFoxworthy, and the socially funny #ChrissyTeigen. Amanda Seales is set to star as the host.
Viewers can look forward to the show being the new modern-day comedy show, which is set to feature the best of the best stand-ups, sketch troupes, and comedic variety acts, according to the show’s official description. “From solo comics to sketch troupes to musicians, magicians, podcasters, puppeteers, YouTubers and more – anyone who can make audiences laugh will have the chance to receive the career-changing $250,000 prize package and see their name in lights in the Bring the Funny showcase.”
“Great comedians know how to make us laugh while serving as a reflection of the times, and we are excited to embrace and support the myriad of ways funny people bring us levity and humor today,” said Meredith Ahr, President, Alternative and Reality Group, NBC Entertainment. “Kenan, Chrissy, Jeff, and Amanda are not only hilarious, but are pioneers in their respective areas and understand what it takes to have longevity and breadth in this industry. They, along with our partners at Just for Laughs, will be an insightful resource for the talent that takes our stage.”
David Friedman and Matilda Zoltowski will serve as executive producers, and Just for Laughs President Bruce Hills will serve as consulting producer. The series will be produced under Universal Television Alternative Studio.
