NCAA denies Rutgers Kerwin Okoro hardship waiver

Here is another NCAA ruling that completely makes no sense at all. The NCAA recently denied Kerwin Okoro a hardship waiver from Iowa State to Rutgers basketball program. According to the New York Post, The NCAA grants transfer waivers to student athletes based on injury, illness or financial hardship of an immediate family member or legal guardian. The NY Post also states that if a family member is given a specific amount of time to live that merits a waiver.

Apparently this does not matter if a family member dies. Okoro’s brother died of colon cancer and his father passed away from a stroke. This young man lost his brother and father within two months last year and he decided that he wanted to move back closer to home to be close to his mother. I think that if this story gets enough media attention that the NCAA will rethink their decision and update the rule. The NCAA has a lot of changes to make in order to update the rules. This is horrible!
