It is no secret that Donald Trump is not a fan of former President Barack Obama’s policies and achievements. Now Trump is calling for the removal of Obamacare.
NBC News reported that the Trump administration referred to the mandate as “unconstitutional” and demanded that the rest of the policy be “struck down.”
If the Supreme Court approves Trump’s request, an estimate of 20 million Americans will lose health insurance coverage and will forfeit protections for pre-existing conditions, NBC reported.
The late-night brief took place Thursday in the midst of the U.S. experiencing significant surges of positive COVID-19 cases across the country.
Although the nation recently broke the record with over 45,000 confirmed cases in one day, Trump’s administration aims to remove Obama’s law, that requires everyone to have health insurance.
“It limits choice,” White House Spokesman Judd Deere said in regards to Obamacare.
Deere said the former president’s policy “forces Americans to purchase unaffordable plans, and restricts patients with pre-existing high-risk conditions from accessing the doctors and hospitals they need.”
It suspected that major complications will arise during this year’s presidential elections if Trump’s request is approved.
