A new study shows nearly one in five Americans believes QAnon conspiracy theories.
QAnon is a viral, pro-Trump conspiracy theory that alleges that #DonaldTrump was elected to take down a cable of Satan-worshipping pedophiles who are running a global sex-trafficking ring. Conspiracy theorists who follow this belief believe that Democrats and other elites are the alleged pedophiles that Trump is supposedly trying to take down.
And according to a new study, 15 percent of Americans agree with this idea. The study adds that 20 percent of Americans agree with the statement: “There is a storm coming soon that will sweep away the elites in power and restore the rightful leaders.” Another 20 percent agree with this statement: “There is a storm coming soon that will sweep away the elites in power and restore the rightful leaders.”
Additionally, 15 percent of Americans agree that “Because things have gotten so far off track, true American patriots may have to resort to violence to save our country,” NBC News reports. One in five Americans also believes that they “may have to resort to violence” to save the country.
PRRI-IFYC conducted the study between March 8 to March 30. The results were released Thursday, according to the news outlet. The study also showed the racial demographics of the people surveyed; it included that white evangelicals and Hispanic Protestants were more likely to believe these statements than other Americans.
