Days ago, “Hot In Herre” rapper Nelly sent fans into a frenzy when he shared a graphic of several Apple Bottoms caricatures rocking the early 2000s fashions. Nelly captioned the image, “2024 DON’T CALL IT A COMEBACK,” with a URL to AppleBottoms.com. The web page does not include much information, though it does feature an image of a woman wearing the signature jeans with the Apple Bottoms written on one of the pockets. In addition to the same cryptic IG caption, the page also reads, “Coming soon” and offers visitors the opportunity to sign up for updates on the apparent relaunch.
Nelly has not released any further comments about the resurgence of Apple Bottoms, leaving fans to speculate about how he plans to re-introduce the line that debuted in 2003. The standout product was the adored Apple Bottoms jeans, many of which featured pockets in the shape of apples with the logo spread across the backside. The brand became so popular that Nelly launched the “Miss Apple Bottoms Model Search.” This allowed models to compete for several Apple Bottoms perks, including a campaign and new wardrobe. The final collection was unveiled in 2010, and shortly after, things seemed to be quiet for the company until a complaint the following year.
In May 2011, a 60-Day Notice of Violation was brought to the California Attorney General against Icer Brands, Apple Bottoms’ manufacturer. In the complaint, it was reported that multiple Apple Bottoms products contained the harmful chemical DEHP. The complaint pointed out several items from the line dating back to 2008 that included the element, which has been linked to female reproductive cancers, according to BMC Public Health. It’s unknown if this played a role in the line falling off in the following years. However, such matters have likely been addressed with the rapper looking to bring back the company.
While Apple Bottoms’ return is undoubtedly an opportunity to introduce a new generation to the line, this would not be Nelly’s first time teasing the line. In March 2020, Nelly got fans riled up after sharing the famous red apple logo with a similar message that read, “It’s bout that time…!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don’t call it a come back..!!!!!”
As of now, there has yet to be a definitive launch date or preview of the potential new looks. We will simply have to wait and see what the future of Apple Bottoms looks like.
