NeNe Leakes believes she could have been on the same level as Kim Kardashian had her career not been derailed.
The former “Real Housewives of Atlanta” frontwoman explained her stance during part two of her conversion with Carlos King. When asked by her former RHOA executive producer if she believed she should have been “bigger” than her fellow reality television star, Leakes replied, “Absolutely. If not bigger, right there with her.”
“I felt like they pushed Kim, and they didn’t push me. Kim came on after me, and they opened up every door and every opportunity for her,” the Linnethia Lounge owner shared.
According to Leakes, she and the SKIMS founder were even placed in the same rooms several times, with Leakes even attending her baby shower when she was pregnant with North West. Despite rubbing elbows with the wealthy family and Kanye West, Leakes says the influencer was propelled into the limelight while she was left stagnant, despite her contributions to the nonscripted TV genre. Unfortunately, Leakes believes this was done purposefully. In one incident, Leakes says both she and Kardashian had Shoe Dazzle deals, yet, only the beauty mogul’s line was heavily promoted.
Another point of contention for Leakes was the fact that in the early seasons of RHOA, the Housewives were not allowed to push their business endeavors. Elsewhere on “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” much of their storylines had to do with the launch of their companies.
Leakes also shared that she felt she’d been blackballed at one point. Multiple podcasts and talk show deals were presented to her, and for reasons unknown, they’d simply disappear, even when in the negotiation stages. She expressed that she’d still be open to doing a show of her own, but for now, she is focused on her new women empowerment initiatives.
