Only time will tell who is lying.
On Wednesday, Lovebscott ran an exclusive report claiming that Nene Leakes was not asked by Bravo to return to the 13th season of The Real Housewives of Atlanta. The source also claimed pickup letters were emailed to representatives of each cast member, but Leakes didn’t get one. However, a different outlet contradicted the blog’s report, which left people confused.
Nene, 52, helped clear the air by laughing off the rumors on her social media accounts.
“I can’t chileeeeeeee,” the OG Housewife, 52, captioned a throwback photo of herself cracking up at the season 5 reunion via Instagram. She also posted six laughing emojis on Twitter.
From there, Leakes’ Manager Steven Grossman released the following statement to Us Weekly: “It is absolutely not true that NeNe has been fired from RHOA. Furthermore, it was made abundantly clear prior that she will always be welcome on the series as long as she wants to be. We are having ongoing bigger picture conversations with NBCUniversal and have not made any decisions regarding next season specifically. Any speculation or sources trying to create controversy by stating otherwise are incredibly inaccurate. Bloop.” Grossman also says negotiations regarding her return for the new season are still ongoing.
According to PEOPLE, a spokesperson from the network also confirmed the HBIC was not let go. “There is no truth to this story- NeNe was not fired and conversations for the next season are still ongoing.”
It comes as no surprise that people weren’t shocked at the idea of her departure. Leakes has had a drama-filled past, and last season was no different. The former” Glee” star was at odds with every full-time cast member including Cynthia Bailey, Porsha, Kandi Burruss, long time rival Kenya Moore, and Eva Marcille, who has announced she will not return. During the virtual reunion for season 12, things got so explosive that Leakes left.
In the past, Leakes has hinted to her hesitation about appearing on the show, and in January, her friend Wendy Williams broke the news that she was quitting RHOA, but Leakes later refuted the claim. However, she did admit she was still debating it.
“I don’t know. I just don’t know,” Leakes told PEOPLE last month. “I got back and forth with it every day. I feel like it’s a big conversation I need to have with the network and with production. Because if they value their talent in some sort of way, then we need to talk. We need to come up with some sort of compromise here.”
As for now, only time will tell.
