A suspected neo-Nazi was arrested in Texas on Sunday for plotting a massacre at a Walmart.
The Kerr County Sheriff’s Office announced on Facebook that Coleman Thomas Blevins, 28, was arrested Friday in Kerrville, about 70 miles northwest of San Antonio, after investigators intercepted a message indicating he planned to carry out a mass shooting with a specific threat that included Walmart.
Blevins was contacted by investigators from the sheriff’s office, who confirmed his “affiliation and networking with extremist ideologies” and found he was capable of “following through with the threat,” cops said. They “moved immediately to arrest him.”
The sheriff’s office released a photo of Blevins and the evidence they discovered after a search warrant was executed at his house.
According to the Anti-Defamation League, banners showing the swastika and other Nazi symbols were discovered at Blevins’ home and extremist novels, including “The Turner Diaries,” which was published by the leader of the neo-Nazi National Alliance.
Cops said they also seized “firearms, ammunition, electronic evidence, concentrated THC, and radical ideology paraphernalia, including books, flags, and handwritten documents.”
According to authorities, Blevins is currently on felony probation and is forbidden from carrying weapons. He was booked into the Kerr County Jail on a warrant for a terroristic threat to incite public fear of serious bodily injury and is being held on a $250,000 bond.
The Special Operations Division of the sheriff’s office, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the FBI, and the US Secret Service were all involved in the week-long investigation.
Sheriff Larry Leitha said in a statement, “This case reminds us that we need to always be vigilant. Many think ‘that can’t happen here, and it was well on the way to happening.”
He said, “Our investigators did outstanding work in this case and possibly saved many lives. The plot interrupted, in this case, is unthinkable.” Leitha added, “We’d like to remind the public, if you see something, say something.”
