Donald Trump got a surprise honor during a White House dinner when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu handed him a letter nominating him for the Nobel Peace Prize.
The unexpected moment came during Netanyahu’s first in-person meeting with Trump since the U.S. and Israel launched coordinated strikes against Iranian nuclear facilities. While the military decisions made headlines, it was the prime minister’s letter that stole the evening.
Netanyahu praised Trump’s efforts in negotiating peace agreements and ceasefires across volatile regions, highlighting the Abraham Accords and Trump’s recent efforts to de-escalate tensions between Israel and Iran.
“The president has already realized a great opportunity,” Netanyahu said. “He forged the Abraham Accords. He’s forging peace as we speak in one country and one region after the other.”
Trump, clearly caught off guard, accepted the letter and called the gesture meaningful, especially coming from Netanyahu.
Trump’s supporters have long pushed for his consideration for a Nobel Peace Prize. That campaign has gained new momentum following his reported role in helping mediate global conflicts, including a recent effort involving India and Pakistan. In fact, Pakistan announced last week that it also planned to recommend Trump for the honor.
