After Omaha Productions and Netflix’s success from the first season of their docuseries’ Quarterback,’ they decided to create the same model for the NBA. The original series, featuring NFL athletes, was released last summer and quickly became the most-watched show on the streaming platform. It showcased the family dynamics of Patrick Mahomes and Kirk Cousins and the perspective teams ‘ staff. According to Netflix statistics, it reached the top ten in Canada, Switzerland, and Ireland.
The NBA, being the global sport that it is, may have found the perfect five players to follow throughout this season. The series will feature Lakers’ LeBron James, Boston Celtics’ Jayson Tatum, Miami Heat’s Jimmy Butler, Minnesota Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards, and Sacramento Kings’ Domantas Sabonis.
Tatum and James are both fathers, while Anthony Edwards is establishing himself as one of the NBA’s rising stars. Jimmy Butler, often considered an underdog, is a constant threat in the Eastern Conference playoffs. Fans will also be intrigued by his private life. Sabonis was also included in the group likely due to his deep bloodline within basketball, as his father, Arvydas Sabonis, was an international basketball star.
LeBron’s SpringHill Company and former President Obama’s Higher Ground Productions have reportedly teamed up with Omaha for this project.
The Wall Street Journal reported that in October, the production companies were in talks about a potential series. It seems as if the trigger has been pulled. It’s a very intriguing concept that should bring in a lot of attraction for Netflix and NBA fans worldwide.
