Netflix has fired an unidentified employee for sharing confidential financial data to a Bloomberg journalist, who then cited the information in an article about Netflix employees’ adverse reaction to Dave Chappelle’s latest stand-up special.
The article, published October 13, includes financial information on how much the streamer spent on Chappelle’s “The Closer” compared to other productions.
“We have let go of an employee for sharing confidential, commercially sensitive information outside the company,” a Netflix spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter on Friday. “We understand this employee may have been motivated by disappointment and hurt with Netflix, but maintaining a culture of trust and transparency is core to our company.”
Netflix and Chappelle have been the center of a firestorm since the Oct.5 release of Chappelle’s latest stand-up special, in which the comedian mocks gender identities and aligns himself with transphobic remarks made by the author  J.K. Rowling.
